It is usually pretty exciting for couples when they first decide that they are ready to begin trying to have a baby. They start to plan how their family life will be, choose baby names, and maybe even talk about decorating a nursery. So, it can be quite devastating when a couple begins to have...

Possible Causes Of A Low Sperm Count

Low Sperm CountInfertility is one of the hardest things a person can face. We are taught from an early age that anyone can have a baby. It is devastating for a couple to learn that they cannot conceive. There are some reports that compare the stress of infertility to that of the death of a family member. One simple cause for infertility is a low sperm count.

There are many reasons a man may have a low sperm count. One reason which may be surprising is a high rate of sexual intercourse. The more a man ejaculates the lower his sperm count is going to be. This could be surprising to people who are under the misconception that the more you have sex the more you increase your chances of becoming pregnant. If you are trying to get pregnant, it is advisable to wait a day or two between sexual encounters. This will allow the sperm count to go up.

Hundreds of years ago Native American Indians used a steam Tee Pee as a simple form of birth control. They had learned that heat lowers the sperm count. The longer the man stayed in the Tee Pee the less likely his mate was to become pregnant. This fact has been scientifically proven. Heat applied to the scrotum will result in a lower sperm count.

Lifestyle habits can also attribute to the sperm count. Men who smoke, use drugs, or use excessive alcohol are at risk for having a lower sperm count. For a couple wanting to avoid fertility issues it is advisable to quit smoking, using drugs, or drinking. Not only do these three things decrease your chances for becoming pregnant, they also increase the risk of health problems with an unborn child. Smoking has been known to cause low birth weight. The use of drugs can cause birth defects. The use of alcohol can cause the child to be diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome.

Diet has a lot to do with sperm count. A healthy low fat diet, which is high in protein is not only good for your health but it is also good for your sperm count. Caffeine can also decrease your sperm count.

There are things that you can do to increase your sperm count. Loose fitting clothes keeps the testicles cooler. Taking a shower instead of using a hot bath will also help.

Being overweight can cause a hormone imbalance. By losing weight your body has the natural ability of putting your hormones back into balance. This can allow your sperm count to rise. Remember hormones can be out of balance due to high levels of stress. Exercise not only on allows you to lose weight but it can also reduce the stress levels.

There are certain drugs, pharmaceutical and natural herb, which offer the ability to increase a man's sperm count. You should check with your doctor before trying any of these remedies.

One last thing to remember is in most men, the sperm count is often the most high first thing in the morning.
