How Some Women Use Acupuncture As Fertility Treatment

Roughly 10% of the woman in the United States alone each year have some degree of difficulty getting pregnant. Many turn to conventional medical treatments to increase their chances of conception, but many also use alternative therapies either alone or in conjunction with conventional treatment. Acupuncture is one of the many alternative treatments that many people turn to in an effort to increase their fertility.

Studies have shown that acupuncture can in fact increase fertility rates in some woman who receive repeated treatment. The theory is that acupuncture increases blood flow to the woman’s ovaries, which is where eggs are produced and also to the lining of the uterus where implantation takes place. Some acupuncturist claim that almost 70% of the patients they treat come in for fertility related issues.

Acupuncture works under the theory that there are hundreds of points on the body that are connected by energy channels called meridians. Under the acupuncture theory it is believed that an individuals health and well being is dependent upon the smooth flow of energy through these channels.

The practice of using acupuncture for fertility issues has become very popular. In fact many acupuncturist specialize in the treatment of infertility. These acupuncturist are quite popular and have clients who both are and aren’t receiving additional medical therapies.
